Abstract

The damage to the sliding sledge plate that  function as a roll base has accured. The objective of this study was to find out the factors leading to the damage and provide recommendations in order to prevent similar cases occur in the future. In analyzing the damage, the present study employed visual observation, macro-fractography, metallography, Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), and determination of chemical composition using optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The results of the examination and the tests showed that there was a roll misalignment toward the contact area. Eventually, this conditional resulted in thermal fatique, which causing damage to sliding sledge.
